Visualizing initial conditions

Dear UFS community,

Can anyone please provide some clarification on the vertical coordinate defined in the initial conditions generated by chgres_cube: gfs_data.tile7.halo0.nc? I am using the SRW-App workflow for a CONUS 25-km grid with 64 levels (npz = 64).

In that file, the vertical dimensions are defined as lev = 65 and levp = 66. I believe this is predefined by fix_am/global_hyblev.l65.txt. Are the "lev"s defined at the layer interfaces (half levels)? The only variable in the gfs_data.til7.halo0.nc file that has levp number of levels is zh. What does levp refer to here?

Ultimately, I want to simply visualize the initial conditions and I realized that the state variables at initial time are not included in the diagnostics output (fv3_history.nc).

ZH is GFS grid height at edges (ref half pressure level) (including surface height) in gfs_data.tile7.halo0.nc, so it has 66 levels. Thus the variable levp in netcdf file is different from the levp in the namelist. levp in the netcdf file is ref half pressure level (including surface level). Maybe a different name should be used in the netcdf file for that variable to avoid the confusion with the levp in the namelist.
